FAQS

IS HYPNOBIRTHING FOR ME IF I'M NOT PLANNING A HOMEBIRTH OR NATURAL BIRTH?

Yes! Hypnobirthing techniques are useful for any type of birth. They allow you to relax more during pregnancy and during the birth of your baby in any situation from caesarean, epidural, midwife led centres or at home.
It also allows you to assess the different options available to you with evidence-based information.

IS IT RELEVANT FOR US IF WE ARE DOING AN ANTENATAL COURSE?

Yes! The focus of hypnobirthing is the journey through pregnancy to the day you will meet your baby, as well as preparing you for birth.

Some of the things you’ll learn that are not covered in most antenatal classes:

  • Practical tips to make labour and birth calm and relaxed.

  • Non-judgemental, non-patronising evidence-based information about birth.

  • Importance of a birth partner and their role in labour and birth.

  • Opportunity to practice your skills with a teacher - you may find difficulty doing this with a book or CD alone.

  • You learn how and why hypnobirthing works from a qualified teacher.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO ATTEND THE COURSE?

WHAT IS KG HYPNOBIRTHING?

DOES KG HYPNOBIRTHING REALLY WORK?

Yes! Hypnobirthing works for everyone in an individual way. I can’t guarantee a ‘perfect’ birth but I can ensure that you feel empowered, prepared and confident in the choices you make for you and your baby. Hypnobirthing increases your chances of having a positive birth experience.

THIS IS NOT MY FIRST PREGNANCY, HOW WILL THIS COURSE HELP ME?

If you have already taken antenatal classes or even hypnobirthing classes before, then you can do a Refresher course with me. This is a 4-hour course and I will work with you to personalise the content.
If the first time round you didn't take any classes and the birth didn’t turn out the way you imagined, then the full course is recommended.

I'M PLANNING A C-SECTION, WILL HYPNOBIRTHING STILL HELP ME?

IS THE BOOK OR RELAXATIONS ENOUGH?

People sometimes ask if buying The Hypnobirthing Book and read the relaxations is enough without coming to a course. The honest answer is, 'I don't know'. For a lot of mothers it isn't (though it will always make a difference) but for other it is. Partners have an important role at birth and they tend to realise after attending the course. Without doubt you will get more information and feel more supported from attending a course. How many people have bought a series of audios to learn a language and then found that going to a course is far more effective?
On top of that you will meet local parents-to-be and be part of a community.

Yes! As above, hypnobirthing helps you get prepared, whatever the circumstances around your pregnancy and birth. If you are going in for a planned c-section, we can tailor a private course to you and guide you through preparing for this, so that your baby's birthing day can be calm and joyful. We will cover the options you might want to explore for a c-section and we taylor some of the relaxations to make them more relevan. Contact us if you wish to discuss your situation.

WHY ARE THERE SOME HYPNOBIRTHING COURSES THAT LAST ONLY 4 HOURS?

A full KG Hypnobirthing course is a minimum of 10 hours as there is a lot to cover. The programme is created very carefully so that you really understand and assimilate the concepts well. Doing a shorter course does not work in the same way.

I'VE NEVER USED HYPNOSIS/ HYPNOTHERAPY BEFORE. I'M NOT SURE THIS IS FOR ME.

The name 'hypnobirthing' could not be more misleading and I wish it was called differently as the course includes so much more.
Hypnosis is not actually like what you might have seen on TV or at a stage show. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and what this is really is a deep state of relaxation, nothing else. We will guide you through breathing, relaxation techniques and visualisations to help you reach this point. When you are deeply relaxed, your subconscious mind becomes easily receptive to positive messages. The hypnosis used in hypnobirthing works to release your fears and anxieties, build your confidence and prepare you mentally for the best possible birth for you and your baby.

I HAD A C-SECTION PREVIOUSLY, AND I WANT A NATURAL BIRTH THIS TIME.

Hypnobirthing is exactly what will help you achieve the birth you want. Building your confidence and belief in your body is key, as is helping both mums and dads getting rid of any fears and trauma from the previous birth experience.

DOES MY PARTNER NEED TO COME TO THE SESSION AS WELL?

Yes! After the course it's the partners that are the greatest advocates of all! They will understand the whole birth process and how they can support you before the birth of your baby and during labour. Hypnobirthing gives them a role and allows them to be useful on the big day. You are welcome to bring your birth partner if that is someone other than your partner.

DO I STILL NEED MEDICAL ADVICE?

Yes! Hypnobirthing is not a replacement for medical advice and I am not medically qualified to give advice about your individual case. However we help you source the best information available from the latest research so you can make informed decisions.

You can attend the course at any time after 12 weeks but it is most recommended between the 20-30 week mark. This is mainly because your pregnancy is more advanced by then, and your mind will be starting to turn to giving birth but you still have plenty of time to practice what you'll learn on the course.

KG Hypnobirthing is a complete antenatal preparation course, bringing together the physiology and psychology of birth to achieve a positive and empowering birth experience, however you give birth.

You will gain knowledge about how your birthing body works, about what to expect from your maternity care, about your birthing options, tools and techniques, and about the choices available to you so that you can have the best possible birth on the day. We also cover writing your birth preferences, packing your hospital back, and other practical content.
